There are many confusing opinions on the internet about mandatory taxes for visitors traveling to our stunning destinations in the Mexican Caribbean, such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Tulum, and all the Riviera Maya destinations. Therefore, we created this.
First, there is the TUA, a fee charged by the destination airport for allowing the use of its facilities, but it is not a government tax. This fee has different prices at each Mexican airport.
On the other hand, there is a federal tax, formerly known as FMM Mexico and renamed DNR in 2021. This tax is collected by airlines when purchasing plane tickets and all passengers without a Mexican passport are required to pay it.
Finally, there is a mandatory tax that is not included in the plane ticket and must be paid by passengers of all ages who do not have a Mexican passport. It’s a state tax and is mandatory in Quintana Roo for all travelers arriving at the airports of Cancun, Tulum, Chetumal, and Cozumel. This tax is called VisiTax, although it’s popularly known as VisiTax Mexico.
You may not know exactly what VisiTax is or why it’s essential. This is one of the Mexican taxes implemented in 2021 by the state government to improve and maintain the state’s beaches, infrastructure, and tourism services. Keep in mind that Quintana Roo is not the only state that requires a tourist tax like VisiTax. More than 60 destinations around the world already require it.
Once paid, your VisiTax QR receipt will be valid for three months for travel to any city in the state. You should know that Mexican passport holders are not required by law to pay this tax, regardless of their flight origin.
For Official VisiTax some forms need to be filled in a process to be able to pay and receive your authorized receipt with the folio. Beware with several fake websites.
Another option to pay is make the lines at Cancun Airport and Tulum Airport to pay in cash directly at the official modules but consider arriving well in advance since there may be many people to fill out a VisiTax Mexique form for each person and then make another line to pay, which could be a risk of fatigue, delay, cancellations of contracted services and even loss of flights.
Fill out the questionnaire by providing names and passport number of each passenger. Need an email to receive the receipt
Finally, you can pay the VisiTax issuance fees instantly and securely, the vast majority of credit cards in the world are accepted
Payment confirmation with a QR code will be sent to the email address provided few hours after payment in step 2 is completed.
