CHICHEN ITZA

Mexico / Yucatan / Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza is the most world-famous Mayan ruin complex on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico known as one of the 7 Wonders of the modern world. With a huge stepped pyramid, known as El Castillo or the Pyramid of Kukulkan, dominating the 6.5 square km of the ancient city, thrived from about 600 AD until the thirteenth century. In Chichen Itza survive carving stones in structures such as the ball court, the Temple of Warriors, and the Wall of Skulls. The Temple of the Warriors in Chichen Itza exhibits the Maya's remarkable astronomical knowledge. The alignments and proportions of the temple are designed in such a way that they reflect a deep understanding of astronomical cycles. For example, during the winter solstice, the sun aligns in such a way that it projects a shadow onto the structure, highlighting the Maya's ability to integrate astronomy into their ceremonial architecture. During the spring and autumn equinoxes, one of Chichen Itza's most iconic pyramids, the Pyramid of Kukulkan, displays an impressive visual phenomenon. On these days, the sunlight creates a shadow effect on the pyramid's staircase that appears to mimic the figure of a serpent descending the structure. This phenomenon occurs because the shadow of the pyramid's steps aligns with the serpent heads at the base of the staircase, symbolizing the descent of the serpent god Kukulkan. Fill yourself with energy and vibrate in Chichen Itza night shows of light and sound that illuminates the sophisticated geometry of the buildings end envelope history with nature under it starry sky.
